The Bike Dock is now open!
The Mayor of Sunderland enjoyed a cracking display of cycling skills performed by The Extreme Mountain Bike Show before officially opening the Bike Dock in November.
Visitors on the day made an appointment with Dr Bike for some cycle health checks, while others tested their pedal power in our static race bike competition.
But what’s it all about?
Well, the Bike Dock is a fantastic new venue for cycling and walking in Sunderland, located right on the river next door to the National Glass Centre, just feet from Sustrans’ busy Sea to Sea cycleway NCN 7.
With funding from Go Smarter we’ve converted shipping containers into a base for our activities including a workshop, cycle storage and meeting place.
The new Go Smarter centre aims to encourage more people to get out and about by bike and on foot for leisure and for their day to day journeys like the school run or commute to work.
We’ll be developing a programme of activities including led walks and rides, learn to ride sessions and more Dr Bike cycle health checks as well as catering to the needs of local people.
There’ll also be lots of opportunities to get involved and learn new skills either by taking part in activities or volunteering with us.
Keep an eye on our Eventbrite page here for upcoming activities at the Bike Dock and other Go Smarter Centres across Tyne and Wear.
