We had 4 great bike rides this June – 2 beginner bike rides, one from Washington to Dobbie’s Garden Centre narrowly avoiding all the showers and one from Sunderland to Cleadon village where the rain was unavoidable! Despite getting wet and muddy all our riders had a great time following part of Bede’s Way – well done for braving the bad weather!
Fortunately the weather was much better for our Improver picnic ride to Chester-le-Street Riverside Park! The beautiful park was the perfect destination for our Father’s Day bike ride. Tartan blankets, tasty treats and lashings of ginger beer (non-alcoholic of course!) set the scene. Thanks to everyone who made it and big thanks to our volunteers for quickly dealing with a flat tyre on the return route and getting us back on the road in no time.
Our final bike ride in June was a fantastic Challenge ride from the Bike Dock in Sunderland down to Seaham and South Hetton, almost 30miles! This really varied route went along the NCN 1 and the ‘road to nowhere’… Great fun and great company!
Our Bike Belles and Bike Dock volunteers were also on hand at the Active Sunderland BIG Bike ride to check riders’ bikes beforehand and make sure everyone got back safe. They did a fantastic job back marking both the 35 mile and 20 mile rides – and have the goody bags to prove it!
