News from July – Catching the Summer Sun in Sunderland

19801059_654747124731683_4316194988306489002_oRiders on our beginners ride from the Bike Dock to Souter Lighthouse were lucky enough to catch some of the lovely sunny weather in early July. In fact they got so carried away by the good weather they ended up in South Shields for their coffee and cake! Well done everyone who made it and thank you Cathy for leading a great ride.

Riders on our challenge ride from Washington also enjoyed some lovely weather on their route to Roker sea front, via both side of the river Wear. Bike Belles enjoyed some well earned treats at Fausto Coffee before helping some kids with a puncture who were stopped on the route – remember all our ride marshals are fully trained and equipped to help you with any mechanical issues, even if you’re not on our ride! Thanks to all our riders and marshals for a lovely day.

Some of our volunteers also took a day off cycling in July to help maintain our National Cycle Network. As part of Sustrans’ Greener Greenways project volunteers took part in a workday to help improve part of the NCN 1 in Ryhope. Check out the Greener Greenways facebook page to see some of the great work that’s being done all over the UK or email us to find out more.
