Kids Learn to Ride Sessions at the Bike Dock – Pedal away on two wheels – stabiliser free!

Every Thursday from 10th August to 31st August 2017 (various times)

stabiliser free july 14 (7)

During the session we turn each child’s bike into a balance bike by removing stabilisers and pedals. Once they’ve got their balance we put the pedals back on and off they go!

These sessions are free, but we restrict numbers at each session to ensure each child gets lots of support and therefore booking is essential. Please book one ticket per child taking part and please only book one session per child.

Book your free place here – kids learn to ride.

To take part, each child will need a helmet and a bike that is small enough for the child’s feet to be flat on the ground.

Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?
You can contact Sustrans North East by email on or on 0191 261 6160

What ages is this open to?
Any child who needs help geting onto two wheels.

What about the weather?
Due to the unpredictable weather make sure you keep your phone handy with you on the morning, if we have to cancel the session we will let you know via the number you give us. Please make sure you all wear suitable clothes for the weather. This goes for the adults too!

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
The session takes place on the National Glass Centre’s (NGC) roof. Free parking is available at the NGC. We are within walking distance of St. Peter’s Metro Station and we are on the National Cycle Route if you are arriving by bike.

Do I have to stay with my child throughout the session?
Yes. A responsible adult must stay with the child at all times. We encourage you to get involved with the session as much as possible too.

What if my child doesn’t manage it this time?
Generally we get children riding stabiliser free in just one session. Some do need a little extra help, and if that’s the case with your child, we can give you lots of top tips to help you keep practicing at home.
